Dr. Louis P. Alt Scholarship
Though he didn’t study medicine at the University of Iowa, Dr. Louis Alt continues to transform the University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine through the Louis P. Alt, M.D., Scholarship Fund, which his family established in his memory in 1983.
Although Dr. Alt graduated from medical school at the University of Cincinnati and completed his surgical residency there, this Dubuque, Iowa, native spent his career in Iowa, and all eight of his children are UI graduates. “Our two eldest children were interested in medicine, so Louis encouraged them to go to the University of Iowa,” said Dora Alt Mueller, Dr. Alt’s widow.
His influence eventually led three of the Alt children to careers as physicians: Edward is an obstetrician, and Peter and Deborah are otolaryngologists.
“As a physician, my late husband was interested in medical education, and he believed in the University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine” said Dora. “The Dr. Louis P. Alt, M.D., Scholarship Fund is a way to help future physicians.”
Congratulations on receiving the Dr. Louis P. Alt Scholarship
