Earl A. Wimmer Medicine Scholarship
Born in 1899, Earl A. Wimmer left Creston, Iowa to pursue his dream of a career in banking. He graduated from the UI in 1926 with a B.S.C. degree in commerce and science.
Following graduation, Earl began a very successful banking career, working at several banks throughout Iowa. He spent the majority of his career with Farmer’s and Merchant’s Bank in Ottumwa, Iowa, which later became Union Bank and then Firstar of Ottumwa. He retired in 1965 as vice president for agricultural loans. Earl Wimmer died in 1994.
Because of his interest in providing opportunities in higher learning for students at the University of Iowa, Earl established scholarship funds through the University of Iowa Foundation to benefit students in the University of Iowa Henry B. Tippie College of Business and the University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine. The Earl M. Wimmer Medicine Scholarship Fund provides financial assistance for deserving medical students.
