Iowa Medical Society Scholar Program Scholarship
The Iowa Medical Society (IMS) was founded in 1850 in Burlington, Iowa. Now located in West Des Moines, the IMS advocates on behalf of Iowa physicians, fellows, residents and medical students and the patients they serve. The Core Purpose of the IMS is, “To assure the highest quality health care in Iowa through our role as physician and patient advocate.” The IMS is administered by a 19-member board of directors, of which seven are University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine graduates.
The Iowa Medical Society Foundation was established in the 1950’s. Through the generosity of physicians, the foundation has provided money to support loans to medical students as well as funding for many important public health projects. In 2002, the IMS Foundation replaced the loan program and began offering scholarships to medical students. Recognizing the high cost of a
medical school education, the IMS Foundation seeks to ease the burden of a medical education by offering scholarships to medical students. The intent is to encourage Iowa’s best and brightest students to pursue a career in medicine.
The nation is facing a shortage of physicians, and Iowa is no exception. It is the hope of the Iowa Medical Society that many of the scholarship recipients will return the favor by choosing to remain in Iowa to practice medicine.
Congratulations on receiving the Iowa Medical Society Scholar Program Scholarship
