June Marie Grimes Fisher Memorial Award
Dr. June Fisher was a friend. Not only to her family, but also to her patients and her alma mater. The daughter of a Colesburg, Iowa, banker, Dr. Fisher didn’t travel the accepted path of the era. Instead, she chose to pursue a career as a medical doctor. She enrolled in the University of Iowa College of Medicine and received her degree in 1950. That’s why her family and friends payed tribute to this special woman by establishing the June Marie Grimes Fisher Memorial Fund.
A gifted young physician, Dr. Fisher was a faculty member at the UI College of Medicine and also worked at San Francisco General Hospital. Sadly, her promising career was cut short by cancer in 1963. However, thanks to the generosity of those she touched, Dr. Fisher’s memory will live on through the students her fund has helped.
Congratulations on receiving the June Marie Grimes Fisher Memorial Award
