Linder Family Medical Student Scholarship
The Linder Family Scholarship is truly a family affair. The late Enfred Linder grew up in Pomeroy, Iowa, and attended Iowa State Teachers College (now University of Northern Iowa) where he met his wife, Beth. In 1948 he enrolled in the University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine where he graduated in the top 10 percent of his class in 1951.
Dr. Linder began his medical career in Eldora, Iowa and moved to Ogden, Iowa nine months later. He practiced in Ogden for the next 35 years until retirement in 1988. During his career, he made up to a dozen house calls a day and delivered approximately 1,000 babies. He was known and loved by generations of Ogden residents. He was a charter member of the Iowa Academy of Family Practice and served 10 years as chairman of the board of Blue Shield of Iowa. Dr. Linder received many offers that would have taken him away from “small town” Iowa and as he stated, “You don’t build a large practice that way, but we’ve always done things together.” Dr. Linder passed away on December 21st, 2016.
All three children are UI graduates. Jean M. Linder (1975 B.S., 1978 M.D.) specializes in internal medicine and is currently practicing with Linder Quann Medical Group in Fresno, California. Jo Ellen (1977 B.S., 1981 M.D.) is attending faculty physician in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine. David (1980 B.G.S., 1982 M.A., Hospital and Health Administration) is currently retired, but spent many years working for Opportunity Living— an organization that offers recreational activities for the mentally and physically challenged.
The Linder Family Medical Student Scholarship Fund is awarded to medical students who demonstrate academic promise. Dr. Linder and his family share the same high standard of excellence in education.
