Naser and Catherine Payvandi Medical Scholarship
A Cedar Rapids, Iowa, couple is helping local students make an international difference.
Dr. M. Naser Payvandi and Catherine N. Payvandi made a commitment in 1999 to endow the Naser and Catherine Payvandi Medical Scholarship Fund. This scholarship is for deserving medical students at the University of Iowa who are immigrants or descendants of immigrant families and have a keen awareness and interest in international diversity issues related to medicine.
Catherine Payvandi earned a Ph.D. degree from the UI in 1978 and teaches at Mount Mercy College in Cedar Rapids. Naser Payvandi, a cardiologist, completed a residency in 1973 and a fellowship in 1976, both at the University of Iowa.
The couple’s gift was made in connection with the University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine’s “Seeking Knowledge for Healing” campaign, a three-year effort to raise $25 million to help construct the Medical Education and Biomedical Research Facility and support endowments for medical scholarships, professorships, and research.
Both Naser and Catherine are members of the Presidents Club, the University of Iowa’s highest honor club for its most generous contributors.
Thanks to the Payvandis’ generosity, you and other scholarship recipients can make a difference in the international world of medicine, based on strong local commitment.
Congratulations on receiving the Naser and Catherine Payvandi Medical Scholarship
