E. Stewart Taylor and Ruth F. Taylor Medical Student Scholarship
Dr. E. Stewart Taylor, a native of South Dakota, enjoyed a career that took him to New York City for specialty training, then to the European Theatre of Operations in World War II, where he served as a military surgeon, and finally to Colorado. While studying pre-medicine and as a medical student at the University of Iowa, he earned his expenses by working at the Iowa Memorial Union. No scholarships were available at that time.
Dr. Taylor and his wife, Ruth Fatherson Taylor, both graduated from the University of Iowa. He received his B.A. in 1933, his M.D. in 1936, and she received her B.A. in 1935. After Dr. Taylor’s military service, they moved to Denver in 1946. From 1947 to 1976, Dr. Taylor served as chairman of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. For his outstanding work he received the Distinguished Service Award from the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. The University of Colorado School of Medicine also honored him by establishing an endowed chair in his name funded by former residents, students, colleagues, and family. Fond memories of Iowa led Dr. and Mrs. Taylor to create the E. Stewart Taylor and Ruth F. Taylor Medical Student Scholarship for University of Iowa medical students.
Congratulations on receiving the E. Stewart Taylor and Ruth F. Taylor Medical Student Scholarship
