John and Kay Garland Scholarship
Two graduates of the University of Iowa are helping to relieve the financial burdens for students in the University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine.
The John and Kay Garland Scholarship is awarded annually, with preference given to those whose primary guardian is a single mother, or a student who is a single parent.
The scholarship was established by UI alumni Dr. John Garland and his wife, Kay, of Marshalltown, Iowa. Dr. Garland earned a bachelor’s degree from Iowa in 1943 and an M.D. in 1945. He practiced general surgery for most of his career. Kay graduated from the UI with a bachelor’s degree in 1943.
Dr. Garland is a member of the Presidents Club, the University of Iowa’s highest honor club for its most generous contributors.
The Garlands enjoy visiting Iowa City when they can, and they spend winters in Venice, Florida. Their generosity will help many generations, as today’s students become tomorrow’s health care providers.
Congratulations on receiving the John and Kay Garland Scholarship
