William and Laura Willis Memorial Grant
This fund was established through the University of Iowa Foundation in 1963 by Dr. Theodore Willis in honor of his parents. The fund provides two full resident tuition scholarships for University of Iowa medical students each year.
Theodore A. Willis was born in 1886 in Iowa City, Iowa. He received his B.S. degree in general science from the University of Iowa in 1908 and his medical degree in 1910. He practiced orthopedic surgery for 40 years, for many years serving as the head of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio. Following his retirement from surgical practice, Dr. Willis continued to conduct research on bone structure at Stanford University.
In 1967 the University of Iowa Alumni Association awarded Dr. Willis the Distinguished Alumni Award in recognition of both his distinguished career and his devotion to the University. Dr. Willis died in San Mateo, California, in 1979.
Congratulations on receiving the William and Laura Willis Memorial Grant
