The Cities that Built the Bible: The University of Iowa’s Archaeological Research Program in Tel Azekah, Israel

Robert R. Cargill, Ph.D., assistant professor of Classics and Archaeology at the University of Iowa

The University of Iowa has made tremendous strides in the fields of Digital Humanities and nowhere is this more evident than in the area of the digital modeling and visualization of ancient archaeological remains. The new Iowa Archaeology in Israel program combines the latest digital archaeological research methods with a study abroad opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students at the University of Iowa and other Iowa Regent universities. Dr. Cargill will demonstrate the virtual reality modeling technology he uses to visualize archaeological excavation data at Tel Azekah and will highlight examples of student travels in the Holy Land featured in his new HarperCollins book, The Cities that Built the Bible.
