High-Risk, High-Reward Research

Presented by Dr. Michael Welsh, Director of the Pappajohn Biomedical Institute at the University of Iowa 

The recently opened John and Mary Pappajohn Biomedical Discovery Building on the University of Iowa campus houses collaborative, interdisciplinary, groundbreaking research and serves as an environment for discovery and innovation.  Within this state-of-the-art building is the Pappajohn Biomedical Institute, led by Dr. Welsh, a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Investigator since 1989 and world-renowned researcher in the area of cystic fibrosis.  Guests will hear from Dr. Welsh how a scientific community is seeking to understand the fundamentals of biology and disease and to extend their discoveries into real-life applications that can cure some of the nation’s most complex diseases.
