The Strong Wind

By Casper N., Iowa

Microstory Contest Winner - Grades 9-12 (Prompt A)

The wind rushed through the streets of Iowa City. Elijah said, “You won’t even have to blow. Just hold your instrument over your head and the wind will play for you. That’s why they’re called wind instruments.” He polished his flute on his sleeve.

Arturo nodded in agreement as he tuned his trombone.

Soon the band started marching. Arturo pretended that he was being pushed along by the strong wind. He spread his arms wide and yelled, “Help! I’m being blown away!”

The crowd, seeing his antics, laughed and cheered while photographers rushed to take his picture.
