Microstory Contest Winner - Grades 3 & 4 (Prompt B)


"Now remember, the concert is tonigh- Marcus, pay attention." My teacher nagged in her screechy voice. “Mhm.” I muttered, half asleep. She was about to say something, but the bell recued me. Phew. I was practicing for the concert, but I was playing the background trumpet for everyone else. Boring. During the concert, I sat listening to the booming sound of the trombones and the light chirp of the clarinets. As I started my part, I found angry notes at first, then discovered lighthearted rhythm towards the end. Huh. I didn’t notice that before. Maybe playing band isn’t so bad…
