Meet Sawyer: Our Local Market Children's Miracle Network Champion

By Tyler Strand

We are proud to introduce Sawyer, our Local Market Children’s Miracle Network Champion representing University of Iowa Health Care Stead Family Children’s Hospital.

Sawyer has been receiving ongoing care at Stead Family Children’s Hospital for chronic kidney disease (CKD) for much of his life. Over the years, his journey has included multiple surgeries related to his condition and coordinated care from several specialty teams, including gastroenterology, urology, and nephrology. Through it all, Sawyer and his family have leaned on the expertise, compassion, and dedication of the medical teams who walk beside them every step of the way.

Sawyer and familyLiving with CKD comes with many challenges, but Sawyer has met them with incredible strength and resilience. With only one kidney remaining, his care team at Stead Family Children’s Hospital continues to work diligently to manage his condition, closely monitor his health, and delay the need for a kidney transplant as long as possible. Thanks to regular checkups, advanced specialty care, and a comprehensive and collaborative approach, Sawyer has been able to maintain his health and focus on being a kid.

As a Children’s Miracle Network Champion, Sawyer represents the thousands of children and families who rely on Stead Family Children’s Hospital for life-changing care. His story is a powerful reminder of the impact philanthropy has on pediatric health care—supporting specialized programs, expert providers, and the resources families need during their most challenging moments.

Sawyer’s journey, strength, and determination inspire us all, and we are honored to have him as our Champion.
