"You’re the best girl I’ve ever known. I’ve never met anyone else who is as interested in astronomy as me, except maybe Professor Van Allen."

I appreciated his candor. With graduation looming in two weeks, I felt a pang of bittersweet nostalgia knowing we’d have to rely on letters and the odd telephone call to stay in touch.

"Would you consider staying for graduate studies?" he asked, raising his eyebrows slightly.

He sounded hopeful. I had considered it. And knowing we could continue our studies together – and perhaps explore more than planets – made it all the more interesting.
