University of Iowa Center for Advancement Names Martin Nevshemal as Chief Operating Officer

Alumnus and experienced corporate and nonprofit executive Martin “Marty” Nevshemal (92BBA, 00MBA) joined the University of Iowa Center for Advancement as chief operating officer Sept. 22.

Nevshemal brings more than two decades of executive leadership experience in finance, operations, and strategic transformation across the public and private sectors. Most recently, he served as chief financial officer and treasurer at MRIGlobal, a nonprofit contract research organization, where he led financial modernization efforts tied to improved operating performance and strengthened compliance with government contracting standards.

Marshall, president and CEO of the University of Iowa Center for Advancement. “His breadth of experience, from corporate leadership to military service to nonprofit governance, brings tremendous perspective to our work. Marty’s leadership, insight, and strategic vision will strengthen our ability to advance the University of Iowa.”

Nevshemal previously held senior finance and operations leadership roles with Sporting Kansas City and Sprint Corporation, twice earning recognition as Kansas City Business Journal’s “CFO of the Year.”

Nevshemal is a U.S. Marine Corps veteran who served in both active duty and reserve roles as an officer, with deployments to Guantanamo Bay during the Haitian/Cuban boat refugee crisis and as part of NATO’s peacekeeping mission in Bosnia. He was named Marine Corps Intelligence Officer of the Year in 1996.

A proud Hawkeye, Nevshemal earned a Bachelor of Business Administration and Master of Business Administration in finance from the University of Iowa’s Henry B. Tippie College of Business. He has also completed executive education programs with Deloitte, Duke Corporate Education, and the U.S. Army War College. Beyond his career, he has served in leadership roles with national organizations including the National World War I Museum and Memorial, the Command and General Staff College Foundation, and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory.
