Generations of Hawkeyes returned to Iowa City on April 18 for the University of Iowa’s inaugural Alumni Day—some for the first time in years. More than 50 events in new and historic buildings across campus invited alumni and friends behind the scenes to see what’s changed, what’s stayed the same, and how Iowa’s programs contribute to our state and world.

“You could sense the pride our alumni have in this unique place. Many told me with glowing smiles that Iowa helped shape who they are. Experiences like Alumni Day are why working with our wonderful alumni energizes me so much––they remind me why our institution is so important and why our work matters.” —Barbara J. Wilson, University of Iowa President
They attended events like the 29th Annual UI Powwow, class reunions, and a performance by the Old Gold a cappella group, with a special appearance by renowned opera singer, Simon Estes (86BM).
They met new friends at Iowa baseball and softball games, tried new foods at the residence hall marketplaces, and remembered why their years in Iowa City meant so much to them.

“A highlight for me was when a group of women showed up at Hancher for the Campus Village, unaware of Alumni Day. Their girls weekend turned into a full-blown reconnection with the university, and they asked if Alumni Day was something they could pencil in every year.” —Colin Hennessey, Vice President for Alumni and Donor Engagement
