Future Alumni Award Nomination Information


The University of Iowa Future Alumni Awards celebrate and honor students who exemplify excellence and dedication in shaping the future of our university community. These awards recognize individuals who embody the spirit of giving back through their contributions of time, treasure, talent, ties, and tradition. The ceremony brings together students, faculty, staff, and alumni to acknowledge the exceptional efforts of our next generation of leaders.

Future Alumni Award Categories

Time Award: For exceptional dedication of time through service and volunteerism.

This award recognizes a student who has generously given their time to make a meaningful difference on campus, in the Iowa City community, or beyond. Whether through student organizations, service projects, or volunteer efforts, this individual leads with purpose and demonstrates a deep commitment to serving others.

Treasure Award: For giving back through financial support or resource mobilization.

This award highlights a student who has contributed to or led efforts in fundraising, philanthropy, or resource development for the UI or a cause close to the Hawkeye community. They lead by example and demonstrate the power of generosity at any stage of life.

Talent Award: For using skills and strengths to give back and inspire others.

This category honors a student who shares their personal talents— creative, academic, professional, or otherwise— to elevate others and improve the university community. Their contributions showcase how individual gifts can have a collective impact.

Ties Award: For building community through relationships and social capital.

This award is for a student who uplifts others by sharing their networks, making meaningful connections, and fostering belonging. Whether mentoring peers, connecting student organizations, or facilitating collaborative opportunities, they create bridges that strengthen the Hawkeye family.

Tradition Award: For preserving and promoting Hawkeye pride and spirit.

This award celebrates a student who embraces and advances the traditions, values, and spirit of the University of Iowa. From game-day traditions to student life and beyond, they embody what it means to be a Hawkeye and inspire others to carry it forward.

Awards Eligibility Requirements

Nominated students must be enrolled full time as a UI undergraduate or graduate student and be in good standing as defined in the UI Code of Student Life.

Nominated students cannot have received a University of Iowa Future Alumni Award in the same category in the past.

Awards Eligibility Requirements

Graduates, current students, former students, faculty, staff, and friends of the UI may make nominations (the Future Alumni Awards Committee reserves the right to reassign nomination categories, if deemed applicable). Nominators should submit the following:

  • Nominator's Information:
    • Your name (first, last):
    • Primary email address:
    • Preferred phone number:
    • Primary UI affiliation (e.g., student, faculty, staff, alum, friend of the university):
    • UI graduation year (if applicable):
    • Would you like the individual to know that you nominated them? (yes/no)
  • Nominee's Information:
    • Nominee name (first, last):
    • Relationship to the nominator:
    • Nominee's estimated graduation year OR year in school (if known):
    • Award category: (please select one: Time, Treasure, Talent, Ties, Tradition)
  • Nomination Statement:
    • In one or two paragraphs, please describe how this University of Iowa student exemplifies one of the five pillars of philanthropy - Time, Treasure, Talent, Ties, Tradition – through their impact on campus, in the community, or in support of others. Highlight how their actions demonstrate a spirit of giving back, and how their passion, leadership, or service is making a lasting impact on the University of Iowa and beyond.
  • Supplemental Nomination Materials (optional)
    • Example: Letters of support, the nominee's vita or professional résumé and any additional information that would further substantiate the nomination not to exceed 12 pages.

Awards Timeline

Nominations for the 2026 awards will close on June 30, 2026. The Future Alumni Awards Committee will meet in July 2026 to review all nominations and make the annual selections. All nominators and selected recipients will be contacted in late summer 2026. The Future Alumni Awards will be presented at a special ceremony and dinner on Thursday, Nov. 12, 2026.
