Giving Tuesday
All Day ()

This holiday season, we are reminded of the incredible spirit of giving that unites us all. At the University of Iowa, Giving Tuesday is more than just a symbolic day. It's an opportunity to come together and make a lasting impact on our entire Hawkeye campus.

We invite you to be a part of something special by making a Giving Tuesday gift in support of the University of Iowa.

Give today: https://foriowa.info/47m9iN8

Your gift today can help enhance the student experience, advance our groundbreaking research and top-ranked arts program, and promote the success of our Big Ten athletic programs.

Everyone has something to contribute toward building a brighter future for the University of Iowa. Together, we will be able to...

Empower Students: Scholarships and financial aid are key to ensuring that talented students have access to a world-class education, regardless of their financial circumstances. Your contribution could help students reach their full potential.

Fuel Research: The University of Iowa is a hub of innovation and discovery. Your support can enable groundbreaking research that addresses some of society's most pressing challenges, from health care to sustainability.

Cultivate the Arts: Our vibrant arts community enriches the cultural landscape of Iowa and beyond. Your contribution today could help sustain our arts program and put our talented artists on the path to success.

Boost Athletics: Our athletic programs play a role in fostering teamwork, instilling discipline, and engendering a sense of pride among our students, alumni, and community. Your generosity can enhance our athletic programs and help our athletes excel both on and off the field.

Every gift, no matter the size or where it is designated, can make an incredible impact across campus.

Let's come together and make this Giving Tuesday a day to remember.

Thank you for your support of the University of Iowa!

Wide Lens: Artificial Intelligence
4:00 pm - 5:30 pm (CST)
Where: 160 West Burlington Street, Iowa City, IA US 52242

In the past week, you´ve probably asked Google to answer questions, chatted with Siri, rocked out to a new band recommended by Spotify, or asked Chat GPT to produce a first draft of a form letter for you-reminders that our lives are already deeply entwined with artificial intelligence. The term "AI" covers a host of technologies. What connects them? Our very human ambition to create machines that can learn to solve problems. Join us for the next Wide Lens panel as experts from computer science, engineering, health care, the law, language learning, ethics, and the arts share how they´re engaging with AI, which forms AI takes in their work, and what questions they´re asking about future interactions between humans and machines.

This is the third gathering in the UI's new Wide Lens series, in which researchers, scholars, and artists from across the university briefly present their work on a shared topic of interest, pecha kucha-style, at the Stanley Museum of Art.

Free and open to all; no RSVP necessary.

Presenters:

  • Jovana Davidovic (Philosophy, CLAS) - "AI and Ethics"

  • Mihailis Diamantis (College of Law) - "AI and the Law"

  • Daniel Fine (Theatre Arts and Dance, CLAS) - "AI and the Immersive Arts"

  • Claire Frances, Giovanni Zimotti, and Luke Whitaker (Center for Language and Culture Learning, CLAS) - "AI and the Learning of Languages"

  • Jeydith Gutierrez (Internal Medicine, Carver College of Medicine) - "AI and Medicine"

  • Daniel Miller (Sculpture and Intermedia, CLAS) - "AI and the Arts"

  • Padmini Srinivasan (Computer Science, CLAS) - "AI and Its Capabilities"

20 slides per presenter, 20 seconds per slide

Ruthless Timekeeper - Teresa Mangum, Obermann Center for Advanced Studies, Office of the Vice President for Research

Additional Hosts - Roland Racevskis, Associate Dean for the Arts and Humanities, CLAS; Kristy Nabhan-Warren, Associate Vice President for Research in the Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences

Art & Write Night
6:00 pm - 8:00 pm (CST)
Where: 39-53 East Jefferson Street, Iowa City, IA US 52240

Join the long, rich, historical tradition of artists creating in our spaces.

Professional, aspiring, and amateur artists alike, make our museum your muse. The return of this popular program series welcomes guests into the Museum of Natural History's magical gallery spaces after-hours to work on sketching or writing projects with other campus and community artists.

Tell a friend, grab a notebook, and join us on the first Friday of each month. We'll provide a new inspo prompt for each session and will sometimes move about the Museum but we'll always start in the Hageboeck Hall of Birds (Bird Hall) on the third Floor of Macbride Hall. Join anytime between 6-8 p.m. and feel free to participate in a themed creation challenge or work on your own project with our exhibits as inspiration. We'll save the last 15-30 minutes of each session to share what we've been working on, connecting with others (optional, of course!).

Please note, the Museum is typically closed during this time, meaning the main entrance to Iowa Hall (atop the large staircase outside on the east side of Macbride Hall) will be closed and locked. All other building doors will be open, offering access to the Ground Floor of Macbride Hall. Bird Hall is located on the third floor of Macbride Hall and can be reached by stairs or by taking the elevator to the third floor and crossing the auditorium to the north side of the building.
